What to know


Sensei Jim Harai Jr is a Kodokan Judo Godan (5th Degree Black Belt), United States Judo Federation Rokudan (6th Degree Black Belt) and a Marcelo Alonso Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 1st Degree Black Belt. Sensei Jim is the owner & Head Judo Instructor. Sensei Jim began his Judo journey in Okinawa, Japan under Sensei Tsuro Fukushima & Sensei James Harai Sr in 1969. Sensei Jim obtained his Shodan (1st Degree Judo Black Belt) in 1979. Sensei Jim obtained his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt by Mestre Marcelo Alonso in 2019. Sensei Jim was also previously certified as a Defensive Tactics Instructor from the Washington Criminal Justice Commission (WCJC) for Level 1 & 2 UDT, Baton/Straight Stick/ASP, OC/Pepper Spray. Sensei Jim is also a Certified USJF Self Defense Instructor.


Sensei Chris is the Co-Owner of Harai Dojo along with Sensei Jim. Sensei Chris is a USJF Judo Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt) and a Marcelo Alonso Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Brown Belt. Sensei Chris began his journey while Sensei Jim and Sensei Chris Rhude were instructors at Oak Tree Dojo with the legendary Sensei, Fred Ogden in 2015. Sensei Chris is a Paramedic/Firefighter with Gray’s Harbor Fire District 5. A great asset to have in the the Dojo and to be part of our Medical Team..
